With its tried-and-tested chassis, based on a robust sub-frame, Unimog can master the biggest of challenges in tough, everyday operations.

Advantages at a glance.

  • Permanent all-wheel drive
  • Portal axles enable good ground clearance
  • High ride comfort
  • Excellent axle articulation
  • Differential locks on both axles.
  • Tirecontrol plus – automatic adjustment of tyre pressure to suit varying terrain

All-wheel steering. Available on U423 to U530 models, optional rear-axle auxiliary steering reduces the turning circle by 20%. Four types of steering are available: normal steering, all-wheel steering, manual steering and offset track steering (or ‘crab steering’), which can help counteract downhill force. Only the rear wheels steer when reversing.

At the core of the Unimog’s all-terrain capabilities is its cranked frame with welded-in tubular cross members, which lowers the centre of gravity and, in conjunction with portal axles, maximises ground clearance.

A special torque tube design facilitates extreme spring travel and diagonal axle articulations up to 30°, with the propeller shaft of the torque tube enclosed to protect it from dirt and damage.

As the frame is completely welded, it possesses great torsional resistance (up to 600mm diagonally).

The low centre of gravity and extreme torsional flexibility provide additional safety on steep uphill and tilting angles, while stabiliser bars at the front and rear promote high cornering stability and driving safety. Furthermore, asymmetrical arrangement of the axle differentials makes it easier to override obstacles

U216-U530. Euro 6 efficiency.

The Euro 6 four-cylinder OM934 and six-cylinder OM936 engine options available in the U216-U530 range deliver up to 177hp (130kW) and 272hp (220kW) respectively, with impressive torque up to 1200Nm.

A premium engine brake reduces mechanical wear and tear on the brakes and contributes to Unimog’s overall economic efficiency.

Characterised by smooth running, a long service life and great efficiency, the fully synchronised electro-pneumatic transmission features eight forward and six reverse gears for excellent tractive power. A forward-reverse switch can be integrated into the multifunction joystick. Two drive programs enable full automatic or automated-manual operation.

Reliable braking when it counts. A compressed-air, dual-circuit disc braking system brings Unimog to a safe stop, even on long hills and with heavy loads. Additional safety and driving stability are provided by the anti-lock braking system (ABS), which allows the wheels to be locked during off-road use and the braking distance to be shortened by forming a wedge of earth.

Advantages at a glance.

  • Spring-loaded parking brake.
  • ABS actuation of every wheel.
  • Automatic brake pressure control.
