The Southern Hemisphere’s first three Mercedes-Benz Actros L ProCabins are now on New Zealand roads, with B&D Doors.

The arrival of the Mercedes-Benz Actros L ProCabin marks a significant step forward for operators seeking improved performance, comfort and advanced technology.

Local confidence and leadership

The efficient Actros L ProCabin has quickly gained traction locally, with Christchurch-based B&D Doors taking delivery of the first three models this side of the equator. It’s a milestone that underscores early confidence in the new model.

B&D Doors’ decision to invest in the Actros L ProCabin was driven by a combination of performance, efficiency and long-standing support from the Keith Andrews team.

Luke Fifield, Driver Team Leader and Fleet Manager at B&D Doors, says the long-haul trucks, which travel up to 3,000km per week, deliver an unmatched driver experience. “We spend a lot of time in the truck, so comfort is massive,” says Fifield. “Inside it's unbelievably quiet, the transmission is smoother. You really notice the difference, the whole cab has a premium feel, everything from the seating to the lighting just makes it a great place to be. It’s a real step up.

At the heart of the Actros L ProCabin is a redesigned aerodynamic cab, engineered to reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency by up to 3% in European testing, supported by an optimised powertrain and the latest generation OM 473 engine. In a sector squeezed by operating costs, those gains are immediately relevant in day-to-day operations.

“Fuel efficiency is always a factor for us, and we were attracted to what the Actros L ProCabin offers there,” says Fifield. “We’re also big on emissions and sustainability, so it really fits the bill.”

Safety is equally central to the Actros L ProCabin’s design, with a suite of advanced assistance systems including Active Brake Assist 6, Active Sideguard Assist 2 and Active Drive Assist 3. These technologies are designed to support driver awareness and reduce risk on long, demanding runs.

Inside the cab, the Actros L ProCabin delivers a step change in comfort and connectivity, combining the Multimedia Cockpit Interactive 2 with a premium, quieter cabin environment. “It ticks a lot of boxes alongside the driver assistance and safety features,” Fifield adds. “When you’re covering big distances every week, that extra support makes a real difference.”
