MTA NOD FOR JAYSON

KAT Napier apprentice technician Jayson Daysh (pictured centre) recognised at Trades Training Awards.

Jayson, who is studying for a National Certificate in Motor Industry (Automotive Engineering), has been named MTA Best Apprentice Year 1 for the Hawke’s Bay region in recognition of his outstanding commitment to learning his trade.

“Jayson is very dedicated to learning,” says KAT Napier service manager David Tatton. “He knocks off work, picks his daughter up, gets home and starts the dinner, entertains his daughter until his partner comes home and then spends up to two hours a night studying.

“Coming from truck driving, long hours are not an issue. I think this has helped him relate to the mechanics. He is someone who works hard to get what he wants and then looks after it.”

After starting in the industry driving trucks for Conroy Removals, and getting his Class 5 licence, Jayson decided to make a change.

“I was trucking for about nine years. I was always interested in becoming a mechanic, but never got the opportunity, so I’m really grateful I got accepted on the course,” he says.

“I was pretty stoked when I got the news about the award,” says Jayson. “I really wasn’t expecting it!”
